Project Goal: Transform the existing community garden into a vibrant urban garden theater and cafe space, providing an engaging and inclusive environment for the community to enjoy.

Phase 1: August 18 – 21
– Task: Paint the Name and Logo
– Paint the name: “Masithandane Gugulethu Peopleize Urban Garden Theater & Cafe” along with the website link on a prominent wall or surface.
– Ensure the signage is visible and aesthetically appealing.

Phase 2: August 25 – 29
– Task: Prepare Performance Area
– Clear and level the designated area for the stage.
– Cut the grass to create a suitable space for the stage, cafe, and seating areas.

Phase 3: September 1 – 3
– Task: Build Covers for Stove and Seating
– Construct a cover or canopy for the stove area to ensure protection from the elements.
– Build covers for seating areas to provide shade and comfort for cafe visitors.

Phase 4: September 8 – 10
– Task: Construction of Stage and Cafe Counter
– Order Pallets: Place an order for the required number of pallets for stage construction and other purposes.
– Tools Needed:
– Circular saw or handsaw for cutting pallets
– Power drill for assembly
– Hammer and nails
– Measuring tape
– Level
– Safety equipment (gloves, safety glasses, etc.)
– Construct the cafe counter using suitable materials, creating an inviting space for orders and service.
– Install a vertical garden wall made from pallets, enhancing the aesthetics and greenery of the cafe.
– Assemble two shop displays to showcase cafe offerings.
– Build five tables with seating arrangements for a total of 20 people.

Phase 5: September 15 – 17
– Task: Final Touches and Opening Preparation
– Paint the stage background to create an engaging backdrop for performances.
– Set up the cafe area, including tables, chairs, and the ordering countertop.
– Kitchen Setup and Equipment:
– Install the stove under the cover, ensuring proper ventilation.
– Set up kitchen appliances (e.g., refrigerator, coffee maker, etc.).
– Arrange dishes, utensils, and glassware for cafe service.
– Ensure all elements of the garden theater and cafe are in place and well-organized.
– Perform a final inspection of the entire space to address any last-minute details.
– Prepare for the Grand Opening on Saturday, September 30.

Grand Opening: September 30
– Task: Launch Event
– Advertise and promote the grand opening event to the community.
– Arrange for performances or activities to showcase the theater space.
– Ensure the cafe is fully operational and staffed to serve visitors.
– Welcome the community to the newly transformed Masithandane Gugulethu Peopleize Urban Garden Theater & Cafe.
