Our Guided Tours

Choose from three unique experiences that allow you to immerse yourself in Langa Township culture, history, and daily life.

Walking Tour

Together we walk through Langa and take a look at the different facets of the township. We will pass by our small stores for daily needs, visit a kindergarten depending on the time of day and take a look at the different socio-economic areas. You will have the opportunity to come into contact with the residents and gain an impression of our daily lives.

Cycling Tour

We cycle together through the township and get to know Langa. The route and content are similar to the description for the walking tour.

Note: We can only provide bicycles for adults or teenagers, unfortunately we do not have bicycles for children.

Cooking Class

Common questions about our tours and Langa Township

What is a township?

Refers to an under-developed, racially segregated area, from the late 19th century until the end of apartheid, were reserved for non-whites, namely Black Africans. Townships were usually built on the outside of towns and cities.

Where is Langa township?

Langa township is just a 15 minute drive from the CBD, located on the N2 heading out of Cape Town. Take exit 12 and you arrive right in Langa.

What to bring and wear?

One can bring camera or phone to take photos, water and wear comfortable clothes and shoes to walk.

When was Langa township established?

Langa township was established in 1923, making it the oldest in Cape Town. Originally it was just men living here in dormitory style hostels, coming into the cities to work in mines, construction companies, factories and at the harbour.

Who will be my guide?

Zuzie Tours has given local guides the opportunity of employment within their community. Our tours are led by registered tour guides from the township.

Is it possible to be picked up?

We are happy to pick you up at your hotel or vacation home. For this service we charge a fee of ZAR 200 per person.

Where do we meet?

We will meet in front of the Guga S’thebe Cultural Center (Address: Washington St, Langa, 7455 Cape Town) where you can also park your car for free.

Are we allowed to take pictures?

Taking photos of public spaces and buildings is allowed. However taking photos of the locals one need to ask for permission.

What will we do or see on township tour?

Our guests will be shown all the various types of housing, as well as local businesses. Inside food produce stores, different food stuffs and the prices, and also how they would be prepared into various typical dishes.

Can we customize the tour?

Of course! On a private tour, we can adapt to your wishes and focus on the topics (e.g. education, cultural institutions, orphanage, local stores, street art) that you are particularly interested in.
